OAK RIDGE MANAGEMENT COOPERATIVE

10 YEAR ACTION PLAN

GENERAL GOALS:

1.      Start with five (5) landowners and their hunting groups at $10 per individual or $15 per household.

2.      Add one (1) additional landowner per year.

3.      Grow by 10 members/year

GOALS FOR YEAR ONE (2003):

1.      Get website up by 12/1/02.  www.mnsportsmen.com

2.      Hold first meeting by 1/20/03

3.      Set guidelines to shoot does (any age) and bucks with at least eight (8) points.  We will, however, encourage setting personal higher standards for bucks (a minimum outside antler spread that spans the width of the buck’s ears when spread out).

4.      Start quarterly newsletter by 4/30/03.  Consider a pre-bow hunt supplement.

5.      Encourage QDMA and/or MDHA memberships.

GOALS FOR YEAR TWO (2004):

1.      Get aerial photo map of entire area for all groups and offer GPS services to members including mapping of trails, deer bedding areas, stand sites, scrapes, and information in #2 below.

2.      Determine percentage of cover, food plots, water, and location of escape routes.

3.      Buck to doe ratio at least 1:4.

4.      1000 acres participating and 70 members.

5.      Look at possibility of increasing dues next year to allow for better distribution of goal #2.  Federal and state financial assistance may be possible, especially if we include #7 from below.

6.      Start education seminar with speaker from QDMA or MDHA.  This will be an annual event.  Consider making this a fund-raiser.

7.      Develop other wildlife goals, including non-game species.

GOALS FOR YEAR THREE (2005):

1.      Increase minimum buck recommendation to at least four (4) points on one side and an outside antler spread that spans the width of the buck’s ears when spread out.  However, the more strict each group sets their limits, the sooner they will see positive results.

2.      Consider increasing dues to pay for QDMA or MDHA membership for each member of co-op.

3.      1200 participating acres and 80 members.

4.      Have habitat and food plot program in place.  Depending on the Minnesota DNR’s stand on supplemental feeding, consider a program for this as well.

GOALS FOR YEAR FOUR (2006):

1.      Buck to doe ratio 1:3 with one-half (1/2) of adult bucks being 2 ½ years old or better.

2.      1500 acres participating and 90 members.

3.      Continue annual education seminar/fund-raiser.

4.      Appoint someone to update aerial map annually.

5.      Begin to obtain deer harvest data.

GOALS FOR YEAR FIVE (2007):

1.      Buck to doe ratio 1:3 with two-thirds (2/3) of adult bucks being 2 ½ years old or better.

2.      1800 acres participating and 100 members.

3.      One (1) entry in Minnesota top 50 all-time bucks.

4.      Examine future charitable donations.

GOALS FOR YEAR SIX (2008):

1.      Buck to doe ration 1:3 – 1:2 with one-half (1/2) of adult bucks being 3 ½ years old or better.

2.      2500 acres participating and 120 members.

GOALS FOR YEAR TEN (2012):

1.      Buck to doe ration 1:2 with one-half (1/2) of adult bucks being 3 ½ years old or better.

2.      10,000 acres participating with 400 members.

3.      One (1) entry in Minnesota top 10 for all-time bucks and top 50 nationally.
