1.  What is the Oak Ridge Management Co-op?

 

The Oak Ridge Management Cooperative was formed in September of 2002 by three individuals interested in increasing the quality of their hunting and other outdoor experiences.  The Oak Ridge Management Co-op is a group of interested landowners, hunters, and wildlife enthusiasts who have formed together to cooperatively manage their wildlife and its habitat.

 

2. Why did we form together?

 

We formed our co-op to manage our wildlife in a similar manner so all can benefit.

 

3. What are the benefits?

 

A. Better quality deer herd

1.      increase buck:doe ratio

- we attempt to achieve an optimal ratio of about 1:2

2. increase antler mass

3. increase body weight

4. increase fawn crop.

 

B. Tailored harvest recommendations for our area.

 

C. Neighbors visiting and sharing with each other.

 

D. Renewed interest in a valuable resource.

 

E. Knowing that your efforts won’t be wasted and your neighbor will put forth the same effort you are.

 

F.     Improved habitat and ecological relationships.

 

G.   Increased number of non-game wildlife

 

4. What kind of an agreement is needed?

 

A “non-binding agreement to cooperate” is asked to be signed by landowners and hunters in our area.

 

5. What does the agreement say?

 

The co-op agreement says that we will agree to cooperate with each other; that no one has the right to tell you what to do with your land or the land you hunt on; that you will follow the harvest recommendations adopted by the co-op.

 

6. How big an area is needed for the co-op to work?

 

The bigger the better — Oak Ridge Management Co-op hopes to have nearly 2,000 acres included in our area within five years. The more land we have the faster we will see results.

 

7. How much does it cost?

 

Oak Ridge Management Co-op will ask for annual dues of $10.00 per member or $15 per family.  This will cover copies, postage, advertisement/promotions, educational programs, website maintenance, and administrative costs (for example: meetings).

 

8. Who can be a member of the Oak Ridge Management Co-op?

 

Our co-op is open to anybody who is interested and cares to come and participate. We will attempt to host informational and educational wildlife seminars for our members and their hunters.

 

9. Why should we form a co-op in our area?

 

A. To improve your wildlife and the habitat they live in.

B. To become informed of ways to benefit wildlife.

C. To get to know our neighbors better.

D. To help stop poaching.
