Tips for planting:

High in protein, calcium and phosphorus, the deer eat this hybrid rape/turnip cross like candy. This fast germinating import from New Zealand grows best in full sun, and rich, well-drained soils. When it freezes in the fall, the starches in the plant turn to sugar which drives the deer wild. It is a great fall attractant and an excellent winter food.  Usually planted in the fall and will come back the following spring given that the winter is not too cold, however, this variety can be planted in late-May to mid-June to provide a great amount of forage.  The downside to this is that as the total tonnage of forage goes up, the nutrition quality will go down.  Plant this with some Rye or Winter Wheat in the fall to really attract the deer.
