The Oak Ridge Management Cooperative is a group of landowners in Northwest Minnesota that have agreed to manage wildlife in a similar way. Currently, we are only managing for white-tailed deer, even though other species will likely benefit as well. In the future, we may add species. By doing this, we don’t have to worry about passing up on small bucks. We know that if we pass them up, they will be safe if they go over to our neighbor’s property. We know that all the small bucks will have a chance to mature. We also know that our neighbors will assist in developing a biologically sound and healthy deer herd. This means harvesting enough antlerless deer to maintain a healthy (generally one buck to every doe) population. We work with the Minnesota DNR and the Quality Deer Management Association in determining what constitutes and adequate antlerless harvest. If you would like to join the ORMC, or if you would like help forming a similar group in your hunting area, feel free to contact us.
